Andean provinces sucha as Bolívar, Julcán, Otuzco Pataz, Sánchez Carrión and Santiago de Chuco have more than 70% poverty and more than a third in extreme poverty. Inequality in income distribution has increased in the region and poverty has become more widespread.The inequality in income distribution. From 2001 to 2010 the region has grown at the rate of 5,2% per year, but poverty levels have hardly diminished. An evidence of this is that 33% lived in poverty in 2010El presente informe de tesis tiene como propósito identificar los canales mediante los cuales el crecimiento económico impacta sobre la pobreza, en La Libertad, 2000-2010. La realidad estudiada estuvo constituida por la población pobre, que fluctúa entre el 32,6% y el 52,1% del total. Concluimos que la manera de crecer reproduce la desconexión entre la actividad económica, la geografía y demografía, acentúa la brecha entre la población urbana y rural, entre la economía moderna y la agricultura serrana. Esta manera de crecer reduce más la pobreza en las zonas urbanas, pero muy poco en las rurales. Provincias andinas como Bolívar, Julcán, Otuzco, Pataz, Sánchez Carrión y Santiago de Chuco tienen más del 70% de pobreza y más del tercio en extrema pobreza; se acrecienta la desigualdad en la distribuciónde los ingresos.
