However, its operation results in a number of challenges derived, first, from limitations for tracking the problem and, second, from treatment of the processing phases and information reporting; these challenges have been clearly observed for the scarce theoretical construct existing around the topic. The research on which this article is grounded performs an analysis of such challenges for some initiatives concerning management of information about humanitarian consequences and gender-based violence in Colombia, specifically in Medellin City, with the purpose of giving some keys for its strengthening and guiding future exercises from the solution of obstacles seen in current processes.El manejo de información sobre Violencia Basada en Género -VBG- en el marco de los conflictos armados, es un imperativo que encuentra sus orígenes en el trabajo constante del movimiento feminista desde la década del 70, que a su vez se tradujo en un cuerpo normativo que incluye exigencias sobre el seguimiento sistemático de la VBG como una de las consecuencias humanitarias del conflicto armado. No obstante, su puesta en marcha representa una serie de retos derivados, por un lado de las limitaciones en el rastreo del problema, y por otro, en el tratamiento de las fases de procesamiento y reporte de información, los cuales han sido evidenciados por el escaso constructo teórico existente alrededor del tema.
