Summary: The Lisbon treaty implied a significant advancement in the achievement of an area of freedom, security and justice. There are many innovations introduced by this treaty in the field of the so-called judicial cooperation in criminal matters with the aim of overcoming the difficulties the EU faced concerning the harmonization of different definitions of crimes. This article analyses if the Treaty of Lisbon in incorporation the principle of mutual recognition together with a second principle, the harmonization of criminal law represents a step forward in the creation of an European criminal law, in which it is an instrument regarding recently approved as the Directive on child pornography.
