Summary: This article analyzes the new macroeconomic imbalances procedure introduced through the six-pack in order to strengthen economic governance in the European Union. In the article, the author analyzes the procedure putting it in the more general framework of multilateral economic surveillance in the EU and of the European Semester. Following the analysis of the iter procedural incorporated by the new regulations, special emphasis is placed on highlighting the position held by the Commission and the Council, and the limitations introduced to the national competence in the form of strengthening oversight and sanction by the European Union institutions.
