Many of these individuals were leading figures of the political, economic, and military worlds. The period analyzed extends from the release of Sanjurjo from prison in April 1934 to the months immediately following the October 1934 insurrection by the Socialists and Catalan republicans, an event that proved crucial in the history of twentieth-century Spain. The text highlights the concern, the vulnerability, and the obsessiveness with which these people lived through this grave political moment, but also their hope that this might provide them with the opportunity to complete their strategy of undermining and ultimately overthrowing republican democracy.A partir de la correspondencia personal del general José Sanjurjo Sacanell, este artículo analiza las percepciones, los comentarios y las opiniones políticas vertidas por el círculo de amistades que rodeaba a aquel militar, en su mayoría vinculadas a la extrema derecha antirrepublicana. Muchos de esos individuos eran personalidades relevantes de la vida política, militar y económica de entonces. El período analizado se extiende desde la salida de Sanjurjo de la cárcel, en abril de 1934, hasta los meses inmediatamente posteriores al pulso insurreccional planteado en octubre de aquel mismo año por los socialistas y el republicanismo catalán, un momento que se reveló crucial en la historia de España del siglo xx.
