Alongside his sociological work, Georges Gurvitch?s writings were also characterized by a political and legal thought which tried to develop a democratic ideal centred on his theory of social law. Democracy was closely linked according to him to the idea of a social right which expresses the political power of each group in society, and asserts the complexity of human freedom individually and collectively.
