The Inter-American system for the protection of human rights provides that disputesbetween States and victims of human rights violations or their representatives can beresolved through a friendly settlement. In this arrangement, conducted before the regionalorgans of protection of human rights, the State accepts its international responsibility,commits itself to investigate and judge the responsible and makes commitmentson compensation to the offended, the victims, on his part, renounce to take the caseto the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and the Inter-American Commissionmonitors the legal consistency of the agreement and holds the role of independentobserver. What are these agreements, what possibilities and limitations provide to theopposing parties and, above all, what kind of reparation offer to victims of humanrights violations are issues to resolve in this article.

Neste arranjo, levado a caboante os órgãos regionais de proteção dos direitos humanos, o Estado se submetepor vontade própria a um processo de solução amistosa, que não implica per seum reconhecimento de responsabilidade internacional por parte do mesmo, senãoapenas um cumprimento de boa fé dos propósitos da Convenção, processo no qualse compromete a pesquisar e julgar aos responsáveis, e adota compromissos emmatéria de reparação aos afeitados, as vítimas por sua parte, desistem em levar o casoante a Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos, e a Comissão Interamericanavela pela coerência do acordo em relação com a normatividade interamericana e ostenta um papel de observador independente. Em que consistem estes acordos?, quepossibilidades e limites oferecem para as partes enfrentadas?, e especialmente, que tipode reparação se oferecem para as vítimas de violações de direitos humanos?, são asquestões a resolver no presente artigo.En el Sistema Interamericano de Protección de los Derechos Humanos, se prevé que los litigios entre los Estados y las víctimas de violaciones de derechos humanos o sus representantes puedan resolverse a través de un acuerdo amistoso.
