Los principios de este derecho están atentos a la historia jurídica vasca pero introducen novedades fundamentales en instituciones como la troncalidad, la saca foral, las formas de testar, la libertad de testar y los pactos sucesorios, todo ello para posibilitar su proyección de futuro.Zuzenbidearen Euskal Akademiak garatu duen euskal lege zibil baterako egitasmoak azpimarratzen ditu aukera esanguratsu batzuk, Euskal Autonomia Erkidego osorako zuzenbide zibila osatzeko asmoz. Zuzenbide horren oinarriak euskal tradizio juridikoan daude, baina berrikuntza nabarmenak sarrarazten dituzte hainbat erakundetan, hala nola, tronkalitatean, foru-sakan, testamentua egiteko moduetan, testamentu egiteko askatasunean eta oinordetza-itunetan.
