Relations between Spain and Morocco are characterised since 1956 by a pattern of cyclical instability, which is largely linked to the latter's stepwise decolonisation process and
the persistence of Moroccan territorial claims. Taking advantage of the diversification in bilateral
relations witnessed as of Spain's accession to the European Community in 1986, the Spanish
diplomacy promoted the doctrine of the "colchón de intereses" (buffer of interests) as a way to inject
stability into them. This article aims at assessing the results of that policy by analysing the evolution
of indicators of interdependence between both countries between 1995 and 2009.
It uses for this purpose the Integrated Database on Foreign Policy (BDPEX) developed by GRESAM
in the framework of the research project "Actors and interests in Spain's external relations with the
Arab and Muslim world" (CSO2008-06232-C03-03/CPOL)

Profitant du processus de diversification qui s'est produit dans les relations bilatérales suite à l'adhésion de l'Espagne à la Communauté européenne en 1986, la diplomatie espagnole a promu la théorie du « matelas d'intérêts communs » comme un instrument permettant d'y insuffler de la stabilité. Cet article tente d'évaluer les résultats de cette politique par l'analyse de l'évolution des indicateurs d'interdépendances construits entre les deux pays entre 1995 et 2009. Pour cela il se base sur la base de données intégrée de politique étrangère (BDPEX) élaborée par le GRESAM dans le cadre du projet « Acteurs et intérêts dans les relations extérieures de l'Espagne avec le monde arabe et musulman » (CSO2008-06232-C03-03/CPOL)Las relaciones hispano-marroquíes se caracterizan desde 1956 por una inestabilidad cíclica vinculada en gran parte a un proceso de descolonización por etapas y a la existencia de reivindicaciones territoriales marroquíes. Aprovechando el proceso de diversificación experimentado en las relaciones bilaterales tras la adhesión de España a la Comunidad Europea en 1986, la diplomacia española impulsó la teoría del "colchón de intereses" como instrumento con el que inyectar estabilidad a las mismas. Este artículo trata de valorar los resultados de esa política analizando la evolución de los indicadores de interdependencia construidos entre ambos países entre 1995 y 2009.
