Summary: This article is a study of the components of the electoral system, designed by the Mexican legislature to integrate the federal parliament. Knowing the importance of the electoral systems as means that allow citizens to turn their ballots cast at the polls into seats in favor of a particular candidate or political party. In this analysis we consider the following issues: the constitutional evolution of the Mexican electoral system, the participation of minority forces in the composition of the Senate and House of Representatives, which are the division of the territory into electoral districts, the electoral barrier laid down by the authorities to political parties in order obtain representation in the parliament, as well as the allocation formula that applies to the votes obtained. In the final analysis of this study, we conclude that the Mexican electoral system is majoritarian, even though it is viewed as proportional.
