WIPO started in 2001 an �Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore� (IGC) which, nowadays, has the new mandate to negotiate a international instrument for the protection of traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions and genetic resourses.La protección de los Recursos Genéticos y de los Conocimientos Tradicionales se debate en distintos foros, como son la OMPI (Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual) y el CDB (Convenio sobre Diversidad Biológica), debido a las patentes relacionadas con la biodiversidad y con los conocimientos tradicionales asociados a recursos genéticos.
