Summary: Since early last century in the political life of most countries, there has been reaffirming the equal rights between men and women, aware that contemporary society and international human rights cannot tolerate any form of discrimination. This international way of seeing things has made it necessary to use international instruments that should be taken into account and applied by the national legislature in its production rules as well as the jurisdiction of each State. This reflection paper aims to explain the way that it should be taken into account in the task of implementing anti-discrimination policies, through increasingly used strategies such as equal opportunities, positive action and mainstreaming the gender perspective.
