Summary: One of the most remarkable characteristics of the Costa Rican electoral system is the daily debugging of its electoral registry, which obeys to an automatic procedure of registration and exclusion due to the existence of a sole identity card that also functions as a sole document serving both electoral and civil purposes. This document is issued by the Electoral Supreme Tribunal's Civil Registry Office. The centralization of both civil and electoral facts facilitates automatic registration procedures and benefits political participation, due to citizen carrying out one only proceeding in order to obtain a civil and an electoral identity card.
