Between October 27th and November 5th
f 2005, the suburbs of Paris were the scene
of riots that were characterized by setting
cars on fire and by violent confrontations
between hundreds of young people and
the French police. These events showed
the limits of the integration processes,
the crashes and resistances that are generated
by the arrival of immigrants, and
that are currently viewed from a security
perspective. The increasing migration
around the globe raises many challenges
for the receiving countries. In fact, violent
acts and terrorism associated with global
migration have generated not only xenophobic
reactions within the society that
receives immigrants, but it also questions the capacity of Welfare States to incorporate
them into their society. |
