Summary: There are a number of aspects that relate to the relationship between Colombia and Venezuela. The two countries have different outlooks towards Latin America and the international system. Colombia differs from its neighbours by having a strong bilateral relationship with the US based on security issues while Venezuela supports multilateralism and a phased integration process in order to decrease the US´s presence in the continent. The close relationship between Colombia and the US has resulted in tension with both Venezuela and the other neighbours although there are certain aspects of the Colombian-Venezuelan relation that can help reactivate in a positive way the existing ties with the neighbour state. One of these is the topic of this paper and is the South American Community of Nations. As such, the article explores the current state of relations between Colombia and Venezuela and provides some ideas in order to strengthen the relationship.
