In Spanish law, and despite the fluctuations in the political, economic and religious situations over the centuries, religious orders have not been subjected to abrupt change. In the study of Property Law, there are three important historical periods: that previous to the law suppressing religious orders; the period beginning with the passing of the said law on 29th July 1837; and, finally, the period dating from the Canon Law of 1917.Los religiosos se encuentran sometidos tanto a las leyes canónicas, como a las normas que el ordenamiento jurídico estatal establezca para sus nacionales.
