Summary: In this study the author shows the resurgent interest in the subject of constitutional duties, traditionally ignored with regard to fundamental rights. According to the author, three seem to be the reasons of this relative change in this trend: the incentive to the universalism of rights that has determined the reconsideration of some aspects of the juridical and political culture of Eurocentric origin; the requirements of the sustainable development with regard to future generations; the weakness that is affecting the contemporary globalized welfare State. After a summary analysis of constitutional duties in different forms of State and regimes both a diachronic and a synchronic prospective, the author states the need but also the difficulty, in the internationalized and globalized world, to reaffirm, through an homogeneous and coherent approach, the rights and the duties of persons in the framework of a Community that it is at the service of promoting them with the purpose not to fall in the absolute relativism.
