Although today, in part, several areas of sociology of the professions they chose, after years of discussion, to abandon the task of theoretical conceptualization of what is a profession, considering that, finally, a sterile affair, despite being, likewise, views the field of legal sociology, as expressed by Nikolas Luhmann, who considered the question of the legal profession as a matter unrelated to the sociology of law in this letter states that these efforts have not been set forth in vain. The theory about the legal profession, the progress achieved in the process of theoretical construction of what is a profession, is of significant relevance for the analysis of legal practices, or rather, the legal operation of social control.La profesión jurídica ha sido materia especial de inspección teórica tanto por la sociología de las profesiones, como por la sociología jurídica y, para ese efecto, las dos especialidades han bebido de las fuentes de la sociología general. Aun cuando hoy, en parte, varios sectores de la sociología de las profesiones optaron, después de años de discusión, por abandonar la tarea de conceptualización teórica sobre qué es una profesión, al considerarla, finalmente, un asunto estéril1; a pesar de encontrarse, así mismo, opiniones en el campo de la sociología jurídica, como la expresada por Niklas Luhmann, que consideraba la cuestión de la profesión de abogado como un asunto ajeno a la sociología del derecho2; en este escrito se afirmará que esos esfuerzos enunciados no han sido en vano.
