For this purpose, it presents a synthetic description of the evolution of the Cortes and its Deputation throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with special emphasis on the different stages into which the life of those institutions can be divided until their definitive disappearance (1834). It concludes with some critical suggestions regarding the historiographical use of the term "constitution" when referred to the Spanish Monarchy before 1808.El presente artículo tiene como objeto determinar el estado en el que se encontraban las instituciones representativas del(os) Reino(s) peninsulares en el ocaso de la Monarquía Católica a los efectos de identificar los caracteres básicos de la “constitución” de esta última. Presenta para ello una sintética descripción de la evolución de las Cortes y de su Diputación a lo largo de los siglos XVII y XVIII, haciendo especial hincapié en las diferentes etapas en las que puede dividirse la vida de aquellas instituciones hasta su desaparición definitiva (1834).
