Summary: ABSTRACTIntroduction: This article tells the history of Legal and Forensic Medicine in Ecuador, its main representatives and ad-vances in this medical science. Discussion: Legal and Forensic Medicine in Ecuador has evolved over the years, in rela-tion to the training of professionals dedicated to this specialty by higher education institutions in our country, it has not been done with relevance of the case and other specialties, have been taken into account, this is remarkable because in Ecua-dor the first training program for professionals in the specialty of Legal Medicine was carried out in the 20th century. One of the reasons for this worrying situation for our country was the lack of specialized doctors in the field of Legal Medicine, in that sense, the main precursors of Legal Medicine in Ecuador were doctors who did it based on their self-training and experience in the medical legal field. Conclusion: The role of the Central University of Ecuador is fundamental, especially in the creation of the medical school, since it has allowed most of the forerunners of Legal Medicine to be trained in that institution. In recent years, fundamental changes have been carried out in our country, such as the creation of postgraduate degrees in Legal Medicine, due to the impetuous need for professionals in all the provinces of Ecuador.
