Sumario: During the last years, a communicative phenomenon known as fake news has been present in several parts of the world. This practice consists on the diffusion of structured information in the form of news and is distributed through the communication technologies. The issue gained relevance in the United States in the last elections, and in Mexico during the civil protests regarding the increase in fuels price. The first analyses —produced mainly in the United States and in Europe— show that false facts can affect the right of society to be informed. During the year 2017 a notable increase of fake news began to circulate through Facebook in the state of Zacatecas Mexico. To understand the communicative phenomenon, in this article is presented an empirical study carried out through web pages that disseminate fake news, as well as an online survey of 470 Facebook users. The results yielded elements to identify the characteristics of the fake news in Zacatecas and the role that the society plays at the moment of being informed.
