Summary: Between 1990 and 1991, during the first Gulf War, the exclusive coverage of the conflict by the US network CNN revealed the cultural hegemony of Washington also in the mediatic sphere, and therefore the European delay in the same domain. In order to counteract this phenomenon, a consortium was formed by a large number of European state broadcasting organizations, which in January 1993 gave life to Euronews, the first European television channel. The new network was presented as one of the main cultural politics promoted to create a public opinion at a continental level. Beyond being just a simple chapter in the history of mass media, the study of the genesis and the beginnings of Euronews can provide original elements in order to describe the history of the uneven process of stimulating the citizens' sense of belonging to the European Union.
