Summary: Latin-American New Constitutionalism has introduced a change in the democratic paradigms that has allowed the inclusion of direct democracy institutions such as the recall of the sitting President. To understand this institution this paper take into account its particular characteristics. This document makes an analysis of the institutions framed in this new Constitutionalism, between them the recall of the President, in order to understand the motivation of this new institution given the premises of this New Constitutional school. The paper analyses if the President’s recall is a device that actually reflects the intention of the constituents, this process is made through a review of the norms which develop the President’s recall at the Constitutional level, and also the process of recall of the President that have occurred in the countries of the region.
