Sumario: Hypothetical European minimum wage policy would have very rele vant political, legal and ec o nomic conditions. In this paper, based on the different Member States minimum wage schemes and the limitations of the EU treaties, different alternatives for a European minimum wage scheme and also their advantages and drawback s are presented. Of those, it follows that a minimum wage policy of "dual" character would be more convenient for deepening the integr a tion process on the EU social and labor aspects. A simulation of the effect that such a measure could have on the labor m arket of the EU Member States suggests that it would affect between 7. 9% and 15.6% of the EU' s full - time workforce, with a significantly higher incidence in the case of small businesses and labor - intensive sectors.
