description
The 1983 elections in Argentina were the first ones to take place after the dictatorship. The period following this dictatorship was known as “Process of National Reorganization”, which ended a cycle of military coups that had been happening since 1930 and it also opened a democratic period still in effect today. The result, with the first electoral defeat of Peronism, came as a surprise for a party believed to be the representative of the Argentine people. Nonetheless, there were concrete causes that can explain this outcome. Without dismissing other reasons such as a poorly focused campaign or the multiple changes introduced after seven years of dictatorship, this article outlines the importance of internal party factors in justicialism. In this regard, a disorganized reorganization and selection of candidates in which informal, even violent, methods prevailed had also great relevance to explain the adverse outcome of judicialism. From a historical perspective and using mainly journalistic sources, this work addresses issues such as the relationship between the national and the provincial level and the difficulties of a personalist party after the death of its leader

From a historical perspective and using mainly journalistic sources, this work addresses issues such as the relationship between the national and the provincial level and the difficulties of a personalist party after the death of its leaderLas elecciones de 1983 en Argentina fueron las primeras que se celebraron tras la dictadura conocida como Proceso de Reorganización Nacional, poniendo fin a un ciclo de golpes militares que se sucedía desde 1930 y abriendo un periodo democrático que llega hasta hoy.
