This work analyzes the performance of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Costa Rica and the challenges that a consolidated electoral body faces. In fact, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal is a model institution in the region. It was created in the 1949 Constitution and since then it has worked, without interference, in the fulfillment of its functions. By the same token, the democracy of the country is among the oldest in Latin America. Therefore, the main question that guides this research is: Which are the main challenges that a consolidated electoral body faces in its activities within a context of a democratically stable regime? To answer this, 5 in-depth and semi-structured interviews were carried out with staff and former staff from IIHR-CAPEL, which provided us with a comparative view of Costa Rica in relation to the Latin American context.
