This work deepens the exclusion, discrimination and even incitement to violence that took place the press, during the Liberal Republic (1930-1946) in Santander, abusing its power through language influenced the political future both the region and the country. This article aims to analyze the role of the newspaper The Duty to political violence that was staged in different parts of the country in the first half of the twentieth century. From here, it is inferred the background of the situation of violence and parties' division which was intensified from 1948.Los periódicos han sido determinantes en el comportamiento político de los ciudadanos. En particular, tanto la prensa liberal como la conservadora han asumido una posición difusora de sus ideas durante toda la historia de Colombia. Este trabajo profundiza la exclusión, discriminación e incluso la incitación a la violencia que llevó a cabo la prensa durante el periodo de la República Liberal (1930-1946) en el Departamento de Santander. Recurriendo a su poder a través del lenguaje, ésta influyó en el devenir político tanto de la región como del país. El presente artículo es un trabajo que analiza el tratamiento que otorgó el periódico bumangués El Deber a la violencia política que se escenificó en diferentes regiones del país en la primera mitad del siglo XX.
