Laburpena: This paper analyzes religion as a theoretical category and shows the way in which it influences population´s behavior. The Colombian topics and specifically the “uribism” phenomenon are analyzed from the point of view of some classic texts of sociology as: The Jewish question (Karl Marx), the capitalist spirit and the protestant ethics (Max Weber) and the elementary forms of the religious life (Emile Durkheim). The main question is why in some modern States, that are not religious states anymore since they have achieved their political emancipation, governments and citizens still think and act in a religious way to the extent that some elections are influenced by religion as well as the behavior of government agents
