O papel do Estado e das instituições é de fundamental importância para garantir a dignidade de todos, porém não se pode retirar toda e qualquer responsabilidade das pessoas. O objetivo do presente trabalho é dissertar acerca do papel do indivíduo na construção da sua dignidade. Na realização da pesquisa foi utilizado o método indutivo por meio da pesquisa bibliográfica. Por meio da pesquisa, compreendeu-se que a racionalidade do homem permite que ele encontre a forma de buscar sua dignidade. Todo indivíduo possui um critério ético que pode guiar as ações do homem em direção à sua dignidade. Porém, se ele depende totalmente das instituições, o efeito é o contrário, não se pode garantir dignidade sem esforço pessoal.Palavras-chave: Dignidade da Pessoa Humana. Responsabilidade. Construção pessoal.ABSTRACTNowadays the conception that stands out most is the dignity as inherent to the human person, generating an understanding that the individual need to do to nothing to ensure their dignity, by contrast, is part of the state and the institutions do it for him, taking any kind of responsibility from the people. The role of the state and institutions is of fundamental importance to ensure the dignity of all, but it cannot be taken all and any responsibility of the people. The purpose of this paper is discourse about the individual's role in the construction of their dignity. Conducting the survey it was used the inductive method through literature. Through research, it was understood that the rationality of man allows him to find the way to seek his dignity. Every individual has an ethical criterion that can guide man's actions toward his dignity. But if it depends entirely on institutions, the effect is the opposite, it cannot be guaranteed dignity without personal effort.Keywords: Dignity of human person. Responsibility. Na atualidade a concepção que mais se destaca é a dignidade como inerente à pessoa humana, gerando um entendimento de que o indivíduo nada precisa fazer para garantir sua dignidade, pelo contrário, é papel do Estado e das instituições fazerem isso por ele, tirando qualquer tipo de responsabilidade das pessoas.
