It was by means of two works published at the beginning of the past century – “Political Theology I” (published in 1922) and “Roman Catholicism and Political Form” (I edition in 1923 and II edition in 1925 with minor alterations) – that Carl Schmitt traced the historical presence of Catholicism and approached the process of institutionalization effected both within and by the Catholic Church. The subject stands out for its central focus on questions that touched the universe of theology and that revealed the highly theological- political strand of this line of thought. In light of these works, the aim of the present article is to discuss the general features of Schmitt’s thoughts on the Church’s own order, its visible form, its singular rationality and also its dual role in the configuration of the State, in terms of that which served (and continues to serve) as a paradigm for State order

Il place au centre de sa pensée des thèmes qui traversent l’univers théologique et mettent en évidence l’aspect proprement théologico-politique de la question. Le but de la présente étude est de présenter, sur la base de ces ouvrages, les lignes générales de la pensée de leur auteur sur l’ordre spécifique à l’Église, sa forme visible, sa rationalité singulière et également son double rôle au sein de la conformation de l’État, qui a servi (et sert encore) de paradigme à l’ordre étatique.Em duas obras do início do século passado, “Teologia Política I” (publicada em 1922) e “Catolicismo romano e forma política” (1ª edição em 1923 e 2ª edição em 1925 com pequenas alterações), Carl Schmitt realçou a presença histórica do catolicismo e abordou o processo de institucionalização operado na e pela Igreja Católica, tema que ganha destaque por situar no centro do seu pensamento questões que tangenciam o universo teológico e que evidenciam o aspecto propriamente teológico-político deste pensamento. O propósito do presente estudo é, em face destas obras, apresentar as linhas gerais do pensamento schmittiano acerca da ordem própria da Igreja, da sua forma visível, da sua racionalidade singular e também de seu duplo na conformação do Estado, daquilo que serviu (e serve) como paradigma para a ordem estatal.En dos obras del principio del siglo pasado, “Teología Política I” (publicada en 1922) y “Catolicismo romano y forma política” (1ª edición en 1923 y 2ª edición en 1925 con pequeñas alteraciones), Carl Schmitt señaló la presencia histórica del catolicismo y abordó el proceso de institucionalización operado en y por la Iglesia Católica. Este tema se destaca por poner el énfasis en cuestiones que afectan el universo teológico y que ponen en evidencia el aspecto propiamente teológico-político de su pensamiento.
