This essay argues the importance of constitutional justice in sustaining democracy as a system of government. It shows how governance and constitutional justice are inseparable, given that the rule of law is part and parcel of democracy, and requires reliable instruments for law enforcement and the administration of justice, as well as the protection of human rights. Democracy does not only mean electing representatives and governors, as voting alone may give rise to the dictatorship of the majorities, disregarding minorities’ rights. These can only be protected by enforcing the Constitution through constitutional justice. |
