In that sense, their highest contribution were the concept of industrial society, a realistic view of representative democracy, an historical sociology applied to international relations, a critic of the political and economic Hayek�s neoliberalism and his view of Marxism-Leninism as a secular religion. The reception of his work in Spain had some difficulties, first by the existence of an authoritarian political regime and then by emergence of a new left heavily infl uenced by Marxism. However, at present, Aron is a highly respected intellectual in political and intellectual circles of the spanish rightRaymond Aron es uno de los grandes renovadores del liberalismo de posguerra, mediante la asimilación a su discurso de la sociología, la economía keynesiana y el realismo político. En ese sentido, sus máximas contribuciones fueron el concepto de sociedad industrial, una visión realista de la democracia representativa, la sociología histórica aplicada a las relaciones internacionales y una crítica del neoliberalismo económico-político de Hayek y del marxismo-leninismo como religión secular. La recepción de su obra en España se vio obstaculizada, en primer lugar, por la existencia de un régimen político de carácter autoritario y luego por la emergencia de una nueva izquierda muy influida por el marxismo.
