One of the most important implications of the Human Genome Project was the acceleration
of the patenting of living organisms as well as of human genetic information in the context of
progress in biotechnology and biomedicine. Facing this situation, the international community
has not remained indifferent. It provoked the creation of documents such as the Universal
Declaration on the Human Genome and Human Rights issued by UNESCO, the Convention
on Human Rights and Biomedicine drafted by the Council of Europe, and the Gijón Bioethics
Declaration created by the International Society of Bioethics. In short, the aim of this paper is
to analyze the concept of �human dignity� in relation to �humanity� and the human genome.

Frente a esta situación, la comunidad internacional no ha permanecido indiferente. Se crearon documentos al respecto, entre los cuales se destacan, a saber, la Declaración Universal sobre el Genoma Humano y los Derechos Humanos de la UNESCO, la Convención sobre los Derechos Humanos y la Biomedicina del Consejo de Europa y la Declaración Bioética de Gijón de la Sociedad Internacional de Bioética. En definitiva, el objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar el concepto de �Dignidad Humana� en tales textos y su vinculación con el de �Humanidad� en relación al genoma humano.L�une des principales répercussions du Projet Génome Humain a consisté en l�accélération du processus de brevetabilité de la matière vivante en général et du génome humain en particulier, dans le contexte du développement de la biomédecine et des biotechnologies. Face à cette situation, la communauté internationale n�est pas restée indifférente. À ce sujet, des documents ont été créés, entre lesquels l�on remarque la Déclaration Universelle sur le Génome Humain et les Droits de l�Homme de l�UNESCO, la Convention sur les Droits de l�Homme et la Biomédecine du Conseil de l�Europe et la Déclaration Bioéthique de Gijón.
