Laburpena: The paper presents a diversity of affirmations in order to define different democracy conceptions and which, according to interpretation, endorse affirmably or negatively the implementation of direct or participative democracy mechanisms. Some of the theoretical arguments that sublie in the use of these of these mechanisms are accentuated, leading its detractors to affirm that -and those in favour to contradict-: a) representatives have more knowledge about the consequences of political decisions; b) ordinary citizen cannot undertake informed decisions (even rational) about extremely complex problems; c) the participant of direct democracy mechanism acts separately, without discussion, which denies the possibility of making concessions or change of position in the debate, and therefore, the deliberation of representatives always leads to better results based on exchange and revision of arguments.
