Summary: |
The referendum in favor of the secession
of Montenegro, held on May, 2006, is of
importance for the region of Balkans and
Europe, because of to the nationalist actions
that may arise in States like Serbia
and Bosnia-Herzegovina or in the Kosovo
and Vojvodina provinces. In the same way,
it generates implications on the debate
about the strengthening and expansion
of the European Union. So, it becomes
an invitation to reflect on the self-determination
of nations, the expression of
freedom, and the political representation
of minorities in the region, since the States
that became heirs of old Yugoslavia, are
still in a consolidation process, supported
by the presence of the international community |
