Constantina was the principal town of a district (iqlim) during the al-Andalus period and later, after the Christian conquest, it became the principal town of the Sierra Norte, an area which belonged to the City Council of Seville. This article analyses some of the findings of the archaeological excavation that took place in 2006. The excavation made it possible to establish the evolution of the castle, and the dates of construction. The castle, as we know it today, was built in the late fifteenth century, but building could have actually begun in the fourteenth century. The fortress constructed by Rodrigo Ponce de León (1466-1474) was renovated at the time of the Catholic Kings (1490), and later in the seventeenth and the nineteenth centuries (1810-1812) KW - Arqueología medieval KW - castillo KW - Constantina KW - Rodrigo Ponce de León KW - construcción de madera KW - Medieval archeology KW - castle KW - timber architecture ER -
