It offers especially an analysis for the Costa Rican case where distrust on the party system increased due to successive indictment within a few weeks, against former presidents. The price of this parties mistrust also diminishes citizens� capacity to judge government performance by punishing or supporting the ruling party in other type of elections or in the following presidential elections. It concludes that perhaps the central challenge in order to regain or maintain social trust is to show that social demands are a clear priority of the parties and the government.Analiza la desconfianza creciente hacia los partidos políticos y la política en general, por parte de la ciudadanía, provocada en la gran mayoría de los casos por el sentimiento de no representación y en gran medida por la frustración de las expectativas creadas por las reformas económicas. Ofrece especialmente un análisis para el caso costarricense donde la desconfianza en el sistema de partidos, se acrecentó por la sucesiva acusación en el plazo de pocas semanas, en contra de los expresidentes. El precio de esta desconfianza hacia los partidos hace que disminuya también la capacidad de los ciudadanos para juzgar la gestión de un gobierno castigando o apoyando al partido de gobierno en elecciones de otro orden o en las siguientes elecciones presidenciales.
