This work is based on two methodologies: Analytic and Normative. It concludes that only starting with a practical rationality from a moral stand point we may actually account for a criteria of legitimacy.El presente artículo pretende un acercamiento a los criterios o principios de legitimidad del poder político. Para ello, primero se hace un planteamiento general del problema; luego, el texto se centra en la concepción sobre el poder y la legitimidad que desarrolla Guglielmo Ferrero; por último, se critica el planteamiento de Ferrero mostrando que por carecer de un concepto amplio de razón no puede dar cuenta cabal de la legitimidad democrática. El trabajo utiliza dos perspectivas metodológicas: analítica y normativa.
