Summary: This document analyzes the way in which Mexican federal regulation raises the obligation of evaluating the performance of public organisms through indicators. The object of study is all the effective and current Federal Laws and Regulations. The analysis shows that the indicators are mentioned briefl y in the federal regulatory framework, and that they are being constructed in an unarticulated and formalistic way. At the same time, the congruence among the indicators and an integral evaluation system it is insinuated. In the last section we raise two lines of action that help to defi ne the future of performance evaluation in Mexico.
