The study is based on the cleavage theory, which states that political parties result from real social revolutions. Furthermore, typology and financing of political parties are studied. Subsequently, this paper studies the Colombian party system. The critical analysis of the apparent bi-partidism demonstrates that the party system changes and reflects the reality of national democracy.Los partidos políticos son, sin lugar a dudas, los principales actores políticos de una democracia. Nadie podría dudar de que el buen funcionamiento de éstos consolida el régimen del gobierno del pueblo. En el caso de Colombia la regla se aplica sin excepción. En una primera parte se analiza el origen de los partidos colombianos. Este estudio se realiza con base en la teoría de los clivajes, según la cual los partidos son fruto de verdaderas revoluciones sociales. De la misma forma, se estudia la tipología y el financiamiento de los partidos. Luego se estudia el sistema de partidos colombiano.
