In this paper we propose new perspectives and a renovated methodology for the study of these documentsLa Edad Moderna es una época de grandes cambios políticos, sociales y culturales. Nace el Estado Moderno y, con él, una nueva forma de entender el ejercicio del poder real. Ambos factores tendrán importantes repercusiones en la elaboración y expedición de los documentos reales, y muy especialmente en su función y recepción social. Hasta el momento son muy pocos los estudios dedicados a analizar esta compleja realidad. La Diplomática, ciencia del documento escrito y de su historia, se ha vinculado tradicionalmente a la época medieval.
