TY - JOUR T1 - La producción de energía eléctrica y la salud de los trabajadores A1 - Vázquez Leyva, Gabriela PB - Instituto de Altos Estudios en Salud Pública "Dr. Arnaldo Gabaldón" YR - 2005 UL - http://biblioteca.ararteko.eus/Record/dialnet-ar-18-ART0000063507 AB - A hydroelectric power system in metropolitan Mexico City was studied. The system comprises the natural resources and facilities for generating, transforming and distributing electrical power. Workers are potentially exposed to large number of physical, chemical and mechanical hazards, as well as demands and stressors. The present study attempts to explain more fully the relationship between these factors and the health of workers at a hydroelectrical power generating plant. A cross-sectional study surveyed all the permanent employees of the company (N=318). The study was carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the overall work process was ascertained and the main hazards identified. In the second stage, morbidity was assessed by means of employee health files and workrelated accident reports. In-depth interviews were conducted with the manager of each department. A joint analysis of the two stages allowed occupational health maps to be constructed and the main worker hazards and injuries to be identified. The two most prevalent causes of morbidity were respiratory infections and stress-related disorders. The accident rate was 14.2 per 100 workers per annum, four times the national average. The associations between these factors are explored. Protective measures, both overall and individual, are proposed.
